WDC user's guide
Contents
This document describes the different information to be given for any
entry in the World Directory of Crystallographers and other persons
working with Crystallographic Methods.
This directory is open to all the Community and the data are
available on the IUCr Web server .
One may either:
If non ASCII characters are needed
one may either use CIF codes as
described in Acta Cryst.,1996,B52,271 or for the
most obviois ones indicate them in an obvious manner. For instance /'e
(CIF) or (e accute) ar both acceptable.
Family name may include non ASCII characters. See above. Ex: Smith
Title must be preferably one of the following abbreviations:
- Mr, Mrs or Miss for undergraduate
- Dr for PhD or equivalent diploma.
- Prf for Professor
Remember that other titles may be not understandable for scientists
working in other countries.
Full institution address. This field should be usable for any person who
needs to come to the institution, thus may be different from a postal
address.
Address as used by postal services. This field is only needed if
different from the above.
For instance my postal addresse is case 115, 75252 Paris Cedex05,
France. It is sufficient for mail but will never allow you to visit me in my
laboratory!
A full telephone or fax number is made of:
a country code which will be automatically added if you use
the Web form for your country.
an area code to be included in parenthesis
a local number
optionnaly an extension number coded with the letter "x"
Thus the following forms are acceptable:

This field is optionnal and may include either the telex number or the
URL (uniform Resource Locator) i.e. the address of a personal Web page.
It must be written as:
http://ww.lmcp.jussieu.fr/~epelboin or any valid Web address.
E-mail addresses are optional. They must be in the form:
smith@chloe.uni.cr
Please check carefully your address. The last field cr is generally edu
for the US, the two letter ISO codes for other countries.
Highest degree granted. Must contain the following information:
- Highest degree. Preferably code it in a way understandable by
national from other countries, such as PhD, DSc (habilitations, degrees
higher than a PhD...), MSc for up to 5 years of study, BSc for 3 years.
- The University where the degree was granted. Indicate the country if not
in the residence country.
- Year granted.
Year of birth (optional) coded with four digits such as 1936.
This field should make understandable to other persons, your present
responsibility and occupation. It must be understandable by nationals
from other countries. Thus mentions such as "dozent", Maître de
Conférences" are difficult to understand.
This field must contains up to four keywords describing your interests.
A keyword is made of one to a few terms taken from the IUCr official
keywords list. An underscore links together
words from this list to form one keyword. Thus
- X-Ray_diffraction is one keyword
- X-Ray diffraction means both keywords X-Ray and diffraction
separately.
Words not included in the official list will be automatically
rejected.
This field is optional.
Whenever necessary indicate additional fields of interests. You may also
mention any interest in your own wording. This field will never be
searched when interrogating the IUCr databse to retrieve information. It
is an additional one.
For use for persons with responsibilities linked to the IUCr.
If yes your name will appear in the database and may be retrieved
by persons searching the IUCr database. If no
it will be printed in paper editions only.
